The boys have kept up their pancake tradition in Rhode Island. They made up our first batch on saturday. It was great.
I offended Max pretty badly though when I served him up a silver dollar sized pancake. He said, "NO! Not that one!!" I couldn't figure out what the problem was. He finally gathered himself enough to tell me that that was a "little" pancake. And he doesn't eat little pancakes.
So just be warned....no little pancakes for the big eater.
We found a fun burger place not too far from our house. It's called Johnny Rocket's, and it's made to be like an old 50s burger joint. It's a chain, so there's a chance there may be one near you.
I heard it was a fun place to take kids, and turns out that was very true.
They brought Max his own cool hat, which he loved.

They have a little juke box at each table, and so the diners get to choose the tunes that are played over the speakers. And even better than that the waitress brings out nickels to feed into the machine.

And he got to press the buttons to pick the songs. It was awesome for him.

It's always nice to go to a place where it's obvious they understand kids and what can make them happy.
The burgers were a little greasy but still tasty. We're going to go back later to try out the shakes.
We're enjoying that we get to explore our new area, it's really cute and fun with lots to do and see. Come visit!

You should go to Modern Diner for the best breakfast food ever. oh yumm! AND it is a real diner from the 50's inside a silver trailer.
Speaking of non kid-friendly places, we ended up eating at Californos in WestPort (near that yummy ice cream place that I can't remember the name of.) The food was pretty good, but the kids were not happy. We ended up letting Eliot crawl around the whole restaurant. Better that then him screaming and everyone giving us bad looks, right?
I wanna pick the songs. And I'll eat the little pancakes. So feed me, too! Feed me, too!!!
Ginna
makes me wish I was there with you
Dad
there was a johnny rockets on our cruise boat. ya, for real.
Saturday morning is pancake morning. Brian gets up and makes the most awesome pancakes coming up with all sorts of new recipes that are fabulous. If he dares sleep in the kids will come in, give him his "pancake robe" and tell him to get out of bed. They want pancakes dang it! :o) I'm glad you have the same tradition. When the kids help their daddy they get to make funky shapes and those pancakes are theirs. Lots and lots of snakes. :o)
We had Johnny Rockets in Arizona, we loved the onion rings and chilli cheese frys. It is really great that you guys get out and explore your surroundings. Some people take a year to get to know their new neighborhood.
Pancakes were a Saturday tradition in my house growing up too--only we never had regular colored ones. My dad was into blue or green or red or whatever color he wanted pancakes (food coloring, obviously). And, he never made circles. He made letters or shapes or mickey mouse heads or whatever he felt like. It was really fun as a kid.
We have Johnny Rockets here. It can be fun--but no waitress ever brought me nickels for the juke box.
