Max adores it. He's been playing with it every day. Before school he gets it out and works on it and then when he goes home he goes straight to it and continues his work.
This kit is really nice because after I helped him the first few projects he got the hang of it and could do them on his own. They're not messy or dangerous, and there are 300 different projects in this kit.
Awesome, right?
The other day he made a radio. And he found a box for it. Then he pretended to be a stranger that I'd never met, here to show me his awesome electronics. He was an electrician.
A very serious electrician.
We talked about what he was doing and how it worked. It was pretty fun. Until we had to start all over and pretend the same thing again. That wears me out. But anyway I'm glad he's been having fun with the kit.
Sandy likes to watch him. Sandy likes to watch him do anything and everything.
It's no wonder. He's a pretty interesting guy, this electrician.

Don't get weary of it Gin. In externalizing the processes his brain has been learning, he actually processes surface understanding into a deeper thing. It's the way my brain works, too. You go through this neuron-bridge building thing as you learn, making connections - some direct, some chaotic - as you draw logical conclusions that either turn out to be direct or indirect. So you've got this brand new mess of wiring in there, populating a part of your brain that you'll be able to keep forever. Your whole life.
But you've got to clean it up. So this is how it works: you talk. You find your mom, and you talk through the slimmed down, final conclusion process, and as you do, your own voice goes into your ears and is processed in a completely different area of your brain, coupled with the emotional satisfaction which may cause yet another memory to be stored outside of your brain - just the memory of feeling in control and satisfied and intelligent = which is something everybody needs and not everybody can store.
Then, the pathways in the original area, through the repeated and streamlined accessing he is doing as he explains to you, become simpler and more direct, being re-visited - the way a path gets established by the number of feet that pack it down. The memory becomes stronger and sleeker, and connections that might not have been quite made, in the process of language encoding, come to the surface and are made.
So, in listening, you are part of a process that will make your life deeper and easier later on.
